No Meeting this Tuesday

We will be holding a combined meeting with Bishopdale Toastmasters on Thursday 5 March 2026. To accommodate this, our regular Tuesday meeting has been cancelled for this week.

Guests are more than welcome to attend our combined meeting with Bishopdale Toastmasters. It will be held at 144 Sawyers Arms Road, starting at 7:30pm.

We will be back to our normal Tuesday meetings in the Cashmere Club the following week!

To accommodate the number of contestants, we will be starting the meeting at an earlier time of 6:30pm.

Guests are more than welcome to attend! However, please be aware that we are not able to let people into the room while contestants are speaking.

Toastmasters
can help you..

Overcome
Your Fear!

Many people who join Toastmasters experience the same feelings of nervousness. Practice speaking in an environment where everyone supports each other.

"WOW"
The Audience

Our Pathways learning programme will help you master body language, vocal variety, speech structure and stage presence.

Make Lasting Friendships

Toastmasters is a great way to form new connections. By listening to the stories of fellow members and attending our social events, friendships will quickly form!

What Happens
During our meetings?

Each meeting is divided into three parts – prepared speeches, impromptu speeches and evaluations.

Prepared Speeches

Prepared speeches are scheduled in advance and are typically 5 – 7 minutes in length. These speeches are part of the Toastmasters Pathways Learning Programme and allow members to practice a more formal style of speaking.

Impromptu Speaking

We practice impromptu speaking through a method called table topics. This is where participants are given random questions and try to speak on them for 1 – 1.30 minutes. This may sound daunting, but it is actually lots of fun and is a valuable skill for everyday life.

Evaluations

Everyone who speaks is evaluated. We do this in an encouraging way so that you can quickly understand your strengths and identify the next steps. This is one of the main benefits of coming to Toastmasters!

“Joining this club was one of the best decisions of my life! I was very apprehensive in the beginning and it took a few attempts to attend my first meeting, but once I walked through the door, everyone was very friendly and supportive.”

“Christchurch Toastmasters is a great environment for those who are looking for new challenges. I started as a way to improve my English and presentation skills, but now I am starting to realise that I can develop many other skills, such as listening with more attention, provide feedback, leadership and more.”
